Education task force to meet in Grove City
The Midwestern Local Task Force Right to Education meeting will be Feb. 9. The group will meet from 10 a.m. to noon at Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV in Grove City.

In The Schools: Neshannock settles with parent
The Neshannock Township School District has reached a settlement with the parent of a special-needs child. At its meeting this month, the board agreed to pay attorney’s fees and put money aside toward the boy’s education.

New Castle district to save with bond refinancing
The New Castle school district will save about a half-million dollars by refinancing a bond issue from 2006. At its meeting last week, the board unanimously approved a resolution to proceed with the refinancing at the recommendation of its bond counsel and financial adviser.

No injuries reported in school bus accident
No students were injured in an accident Friday afternoon involving a Mohawk school bus. According to superintendent Kathy Kwolek, the accident occurred around 4 p.m. on Martin Kelly Spears Road in Mahoning Township.

Pennsylvania high school students are invited to enter a contest aimed at discouraging distracted driving. Students may submit a 30-second radio public service announcement and the winning announcement will be professionally produced and sent to the student’s local media market.

Laurel OKs bus purchase
The Laurel School Board has approved the purchase of a 72-passenger bus. Wolfington Body Co. of Exton, Pa., was awarded the contract for $79,935, which was the lowest of three bids received.
