Shots fired following argument
New Castle police are seeking information about the person who fired shots at a man at Crestview Gardens Thursday. No injuries were reported.
Shenango Township police warn of telephone scams
Shenango Township police said they have received multiple reports of an ongoing scam. According to officers, residence are receiving calls purporting to be from a relative in a legal or financial crisis. Police noted this is often referred to as the “grandparent scam.”
Lockley placed on lockdown
The Lockley Early Learning Center was placed on lockdown today, just before dismissal. John J. Sarandrea, New Castle’s schools superintendent, said the measure was taken around 3:20 p.m. He explained a man who lives near the school on Orange Street had called police saying he believed someone had broken into his home and might still be inside.
Croton Avenue fire displaces residents
An apparent electrical fire displaced a Croton area family Wednesday morning. New Castle firefighters were called to the home rented by Billie Esposito at 1119 Croton Ave. about 2:30 a.m. They remained for about 90 minutes.
Man charged for disrespecting police dog
A West Side man arrested during a struggle faces a felony charge for allegedly antagonizing a police dog. New Castle police allege Mark Lee Jackson Jr., 19, of 802 Etna St., was with a 17-year-old male on North Mill Street around 2:30 p.m. Sunday and tried to incite a man who was with his son in a parking lot to fight with him.
Woman facing prostitution, drug charges
A woman allegedly caught prostituting on the city’s South Side last summer is now facing charges.
Inmate charged with hiding drugs
A woman inmate is facing charges for allegedly harboring drugs in the Lawrence County jail. New Castle police have charged Morgan Bertram, 22, of 2887 Camp Allegheny Road, Ellwood City, in connection with having hidden contraband.
Man jailed in alleged choking incident
A Mahoningtown man is in the Lawrence County jail for allegedly trying to choke and smother a woman. New Castle police said that after the alleged incident, they had to chase Patrick Wayne Bailey Jr., 28, of 617 Newell Ave., on foot through the city’s South Side in order to catch him.
Passenger dies after Moravia Street crash
A Union Township woman died Monday morning after the car she was riding in was involved in a traffic accident.
Man accused of choking ambulance attendant
A homeless man has been arrested for allegedly trying to choke an ambulance attendant. New Castle police arrested Donald William Brown, 35, after someone reported he had been screaming and yelling and knocking on doors in the 700 block of Butler Avenue around 2:30 a.m. Saturday.
