Man arrested in alley robbery

NEW CASTLE — A city man is in jail for an alleged armed robbery.

Police arrested Marcus Alexander Stanton, 18, of 709 Countyline St. Tuesday in connection with the incident that occurred around 5:45 p.m. Monday.

Officers said a man told them he had been robbed at gunpoint in an alley between North Walnut Street and Richlieu Avenue.

He told police a man, later identified as Stanton, and another man had gotten out of a yellow Hummer as he was walking in the alley. He said Stanton pointed a black gun at him and demanded what was in his pockets. He said the other man took $172 from his pocket and the two men ran, adding he believes the driver of the Hummer was waiting around the corner.

The victim identified Stanton from a photo lineup.

Police charged Stanton with robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, carrying a firearm without a license, theft, conspiracy to commit theft, receiving stolen property, conspiracy to receive stolen property and recklessly endangering another person.

He was arraigned by District Judge Melissa Amodie, who lodged him in the Lawrence County jail in lieu of $10,000 bond.

Milwaukee catcher Martin Maldonado has been suspended five games for sucker punching Pittsburgh’s Travis Snider during a bench clearing brawl on Sunday. You OK with that suspension?

Yes. Seems fair.
No. Baseball NEVER gets it right in these situations. Should have been at least 20 games for his sucker punch into a pile of players.
Not sure, but I’d love to see baseball be like hockey and allow two guys to fight for a while before breaking it up. Let’s see how tough Maldonado is then.
