NEW CASTLE —
An East Side woman was taken into custody Thanksgiving morning after a search of her home yielded drugs and cash.
Police said they found suspected roxycodone pills and packaged heroin were found inside a coffee creamer container in the home of Monica Carangie, 26, at 230 N. Crawford Ave.
Officers also found about $1,500 and seized a new 42-inch television, not yet out of the box. Also taken in the raid were drug paraphernalia, other televisions, a sport utility vehicle, surveillance equipment, jewelry and assorted new merchandise, including a computer and toys, according to police.
Officers arrested Carangie and took a 15-year-old girl into custody.
The Lawrence County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force, in cooperation with the New Castle Police Department special entry team, raided the home around 6 a.m. Thursday.
District Attorney Joshua Lamancusa said information from confidential informants, undercover narcotics purchases and electronic surveillance led them to obtain a sealed search warrant from the Lawrence County Court of Common Pleas.
According to Lamancusa, eight stamp bags of what appeared to be pure heroin were found hidden with 33 suspected roxycodone pills. The district attorney also said 12 grams of marijuana and five grams of suspected heroin in five individual bags were taken from the home.
Lamancusa pegged the street value of the drugs at more than $1,400.
The two females were in the living room when police arrived, he added.
Two security cameras were mounted in windows over both entrances, which police believe were used to monitor incoming drug traffic and look out for law enforcement.
A pit bull cross that police said was aggressive was in the house and removed by the county’s humane officer.
Carangie was charged with one count each of possession with intent to deliver heroin and possession with intent to deliver roxycodone. She also was charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and corruption of minors, because alleged drugs were present in a home with a juvenile.
She was arraigned Thursday afternoon by District Judge Melissa Amodie and lodged in the Lawrence County jail in lieu of a $10,000 bond. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.

A vacant South Side house burned Monday morning. New Castle firefighters were called at 12:50 a.m. to 510 Galbreath St. They said the structure “was fully involved” when they arrived and flames could be seen on all four sides of the building.
