Shooting claims life of city man

NEW CASTLE — A New Castle man was killed in a shooting early Saturday at a public housing development in Ellwood City.

Richard Hogue, 28, of 101 E. Sharp St. was shot at 1:45 a.m. at a Loop Street apartment in the Lawrence County Housing Authority’s Walnut Ridge Apartments.

Leon Platt, 26, of Rochester was taken into custody on related charges, but no one has been charged with the shooting itself, Lawrence County District Attorney Joshua Lamancusa said yesterday.

Platt is being held on $100,000 bond in the Lawrence County jail. He faces charges of prohibited possession of a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license and recklessly endangering another person. 

Lamancusa said he could not comment further until he receives complete results of the investigation, which are expected to be available sometime this week. 

A preliminary hearing for Platt is set for 9:30 a.m. Nov. 26 efore District Judge Melissa A. Amodie.
