NEW CASTLE —
A Wampum man is wanted in connection with a November shooting on New Castle’s East Side.
Following a month-long investigation, New Castle police charged Christopher J. Little, 24, of 115 Midville Road with criminal attempt at homicide for allegedly shooting 38-year-old Brian Segers of 1017 Adams St. in the neck and left chest.
The incident happened at the front door of Segers’ home, according to police. The probe revealed Little might have been upset over a reported drug deal that went bad, involving a female who had been in the house with Segers at the time of the shooting.
She told officers she had been upstairs when she heard a knock at the door around 8:30 p.m. Nov. 6. She heard Segers answer the door, then heard gunshots, she told police. She went downstairs and saw Segers bleeding from the neck and called 911, she said.
An infant was sleeping in a bassinet in the living room when the shooting occurred, the woman told police.
She told police that Segers had fallen forward and collapsed on the steps and had told her a man he does not know had shot him with what he believes is a .38-caliber revolver.
A neighbor who witnessed the shooting told police he had seen the alleged gunman wearing a hood walk quickly down Adams Street, then onto the porch at 1017 and knock, then he saw three flashes and the man ran.
Segers was flown to Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. Police said that initially, Segers couldn’t talk but communicated with them by writing.
He said the man had asked for money and pointed a gun at him. Segers said he thought it was a joke and grabbed for the gun and the man shot him. He said that as he turned to run upstairs, he felt he had been shot again.
Hospital staff told police Segers had been shot in the neck and in the left chest.
Police learned from witnesses the man had a square earring, a piercing below his lip and tattoos covering his left hand.
The woman told police her friend’s ex-boyfriend had come around asking for cigarette money, and he always had Little with him. She told police she had bought pills for her friend’s ex and for Little from a Detroit drug dealer at Crestview Gardens.
She said she gave the pills to the friend’s ex-boyfriend, but they turned out to be fake. She said she remembered hearing that Little was upset over that and said he would get payback.
Police confirmed Little’s identity with witnesses from his Facebook photos.
Little also faces two counts of aggravated assault and one count each of robbery, carrying a gun without a license, discharge of a gun into an occupied structure, simple assault, terroristic threats and recklessly endangering another person.
District Judge Melissa Amodie has issued a warrant for his arrest.

A Pittsburgh man has been charged with aggravated assault for allegedly breaking another man’s jaw in New Wilmington. Matthew Vincent Wagner, 22, was charged by New Wilmington police as the result of an incident early May 5 at the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity house on Waugh Avenue.

New Castle police are investigating a robbery on the South Side. A 22-year-old woman told police she had been walking in the alley between Hamilton Street and Pennsylvania Avenue around 3:30 a.m. May 8 when someone grabbed her from behind and punched her numerous times in the left side of her face.

Man reports being robbed on East Side
New Castle police are investigating a report of robbery on Arlington Avenue. A 24-year-old man told police he had been in the 800 block, walking to a friend’s house, around 12:50 a.m. Saturday, when he was jumped by a man who stole his wallet and cell phone.

Men riding four-wheelers help catch burglar suspects
Two men on four-wheelers helped New Castle police catch two Remacor burglary suspects. Brian John Scott, 26, and Charles John Mulroy II, 32, both of New Galilee, are accused of breaking in through a hole in Remacor’s fence to steal about 200 feet of wiring, phone line and pipe around 5:45 p.m. Sunday.

A South Side man and a male juvenile are facing charges for allegedly trying to break into two houses. New Castle police reported the incidents occurred around lunchtime Tuesday.

All fallen law enforcement officers from Lawrence County will be remembered during Police Week services Thursday. The local service will begin at noon in front of the New Castle police station, 303 E. North St.
