Police: Reports for Dec. 5

NEW CASTLE — SHENANGO TOWNSHIP

•Theft. An iPod valued at $385 and other items worth $450 were stolen Saturday from a vehicle parked in a lot on New Butler Road.

STATE

•Accident. Police said Catherine Roser, 18, of Enon Valley, was driving on Friendship Road in Big Beaver Borough, Beaver County, around 1:15 a.m. Sunday when she failed to negotiate a curve and slid sideways off the road. Her car rolled several times down an embankment and landed on its roof, according to police. Roser sustained moderate injury, police said, but her passenger was not injured. Roser was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.

•Accident. Police said Brian T. Damon, 42, of Ellwood City, was driving east on Route 488 in Perry Township around 6:30 a.m. Nov. 26 when he hit a deer. He was not injured, according to police.

•Accident. Police said Ronald H. Crawford, 65, of New Castle, was traveling on Route 65 in Wayne Township around 5:15 a.m. Nov. 20 when he went off the road and hit a sign and a tree. No injuries were reported. Crawford was cited for careless driving.

•Accident. Police said Zachary Beahr, 18, of New Castle, was westbound on Bowden Road around 1 a.m. Saturday when he lost control and drove onto a dirt berm for about 50 feet, then hit an oak tree. His car traveled 60 more feet and spun counter-clockwise after impact, landing in a ditch on Lakewood-Neshannock Falls Road, police said. He suffered minor injury, police said, adding he was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.

•Accident. Police said Cristina O’Neill, 42, of Slippery Rock was traveling on Route 19 in Slippery Rock Township around 1:20 p.m. Wednesday when she hit a truck from behind driven by Steven E. Connell, 52, of Slippery Rock. Police said Connell had stopped for construction. No injuries were reported. O’Neill was cited for following too closely.

•Accident. Police said Tallisa L. Johnson, 47, of Sharon, sustained minor injury while driving on Interstate 376 in Neshannock Township around 9:30 a.m. Nov. 25. Police said she lost control of her car, went off the road, hit a guide rail, then a car driven by Anthony J. Garuccio, 48, of Aliquippa, then hit another guard rail. No other injuries were reported. Johnson was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.

•Burglary. Someone broke into a home in the 200 block of Bowden Road in Hickory Township between 8:30 a.m. Friday and 1:45 a.m. Saturday. A plastic container filled with change was taken.

•Theft. About nine commercial batteries were stolen from three tractor-trailers parked in a lot in the 100 block of South Main Street in Bessemer, between Nov. 22 and 27. Anyone with information is asked to contact the state police at (724) 598-2211.

•Accident. Police said Christopher M. DeCaprio, 35, of New Castle, sustained moderate injuries when his car hit a cement abutment on a bridge on Route 422 over Pennsylvania Avenue around 5 p.m. Nov. 26. Police said DeCaprio was westbound and was passing a vehicle and moving from the passing lane into the right lane while text messaging on his cell phone. The Shenango Township police assisted at the scene. He is to be cited for careless driving.

    A New Castle woman was arrested and charged with the assault of a year-old child in Scott Township. Nicole Martin, 26, of New Castle was arraigned before District Judge David Rishel on a charge of simple assault. She was lodged in the Lawrence County jail on $1,000 bond.

    The Lawrence County jail received a bomb threat over the weekend. New Castle police reported a call was received at 7:40 p.m. Saturday from a man who said he “was coming up to blow up the jail.”

    A 6-year-old playing in his yard Saturday night said a man tried to abduct him. Pennsylvania State Police said the child, playing on his swing set on Line Street, Perry Township, about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, was approached by a blond, bearded, tattooed man who tried to talk to him.

    Narcotics officers arrested two men and seized heroin in a raid of a house on New Castle’s East Side. New Castle Police Chief Bobby Salem said city police and Lawrence County District Attorney’s detectives served a sealed search warrant at Apartment D, 502 Florence Ave., around 9 p.m. Wednesday.

    New Castle police are investigating a reported drug overdose of a woman found in a car on the city’s West Side. The woman, 29-year-old Misty Blu McKim of Youngstown, was reported to have been in cardiac arrest and had two children in car seats in the back of the car.
