NEW CASTLE —
New Castle police have charged a North Hill man who allegedly threatened a woman with a gun.
The woman told police that David J. Stouffer, 35, of 429 Boyles Ave. put a pistol to her head during an argument at his house around 11 p.m. Friday and threatened to kill her.
She said he then gave her the gun and told her, "if you want to save yourself, shoot me now."
Police, who had an active arrest warrant for Stouffer from a previous incident, went to his house looking for him. They set up a perimeter around the house. An officer who saw him walk through the living room and up the stairs believed he was armed.
Police said they made multiple verbal commands for about 45 minutes, telling him to leave the house showing his hands. After dispersing tear gas into the house, they said, five officers entered and found Stouffer hiding in an upstairs closet.
He is charged with terroristic threats, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault and resisting arrest.
He was arraigned by District Judge Melissa A. Amodie, who set his bond at $15,000.
