NEW CASTLE — A West Middlesex man is facing additional rape-related charges in a case police initiated against him last month.

State police charged Alvin Duane Kern, 47, of West Middlesex, with rape of a child, statutory sexual assault and other sexual-assault related offenses regarding an 8-year-old girl who now is 15.

The charges stem from new information the police obtained from a witness at Kern’s preliminary hearing Thursday on 22 sex-related charges filed in July. Those charges are based on complaints involving three juvenile females, and all charges have been held for court.

At the hearing, one of the victims told court authorities while on the witness stand that Kern had raped her when she was several years younger, and that she had been embarrassed and unable to tell police previously.

The additional charges were filed after Thursday’s hearing, and Kern was arraigned by District Judge Scott McGrath, who set his new bond at $100,000.

A preliminary hearing on the new charges has been set for Aug. 27.
