City men charged in alleged robbery

NEW CASTLE — Two men were arrested in connection with an armed robbery Saturday afternoon on New Castle’s West Side.

Mark Lee Moore Jr., 24, of 1003 Delaware Ave. and Mariek Payne, 19, of 804 Sankey St. were charged following the incident, which occurred on Bell Avenue.

Moore was arraigned before District Judge Jennifer L. Nicholson who set his bond at $50,000, and was lodged in the Lawrence County jail.

Payne was also arraigned before Nicholson on $50,000 bond and placed in the Lawrence County jail.

Both face four felony counts each including robbery and aggravated assault.

Police said the victim was walking along Bell Avenue when a male, later identified as Moore, robbed the man at gunpoint. A wallet with $84 was reportedly taken.

In searching an apartment on Sankey Street where Payne was arrested, a rifle with its wooden handle cut off was found.

Preliminary hearings for Moore and Payne are set for Oct. 1.
