Man passed out in car is arrested

NEW CASTLE — A man who police say was passed out in his car has been arrested on gun and drug-related charges.

New Castle police officers were called around 5:30 a.m. yesterday to the intersection of Pearson and Taylor streets regarding a man passed out in a car in the middle of the road.

Officers said the driver, Qualin Antwann Davis, 31, of 901 S. Mercer St., was in his car with his foot on the brake, and the car was across both lanes of Pearson Street.

A New Castle fireman put the car in park.

Davis told police he had taken three pills. He also had a  gun partially covered by clothing on the passenger seat, police said.

Davis was taken to Jameson Hospital where he submitted to a blood test. As his clothing was removed, a plastic bag containing 28 suspected Xanax pills fell from his shorts pocket, officers reported. Davis also allegedly had a folded  piece of paper containing suspected heroin.

Police said Davis had been convicted of a felony drug violation and was not allowed to own a firearm. His car was towed.

He is charged with illegal possession of a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence, driving while his license is suspended and two counts each of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance  and possession of a controlled substance.

He was admitted to the hospital and a warrant has been issued for his arrest, pending his discharge, according to police chief Bobby Salem.

No, that would be weird.
I don’t know. Next time I’m alone, I’ll ask.
