Police seek suspects in pizza shop armed robbery

NEW CASTLE — Police are looking for two armed and masked men who robbed Little Caesars pizza shop.

The gunmen made off with about $450.

New Castle police Monday were piecing together clues and viewing surveillance tape in connection with the Friday night crime.

Chief Bobby Salem said there may be a suspect. Anyone who has any information is asked to contact city police at (724) 656-9300.

Police said a panic alarm sounded at 11:58 p.m. at the 704 Wilmington Ave. business.

A store employee told police she had been closing the store, taking money out of the cash register and putting it into plastic envelopes to deposit in the safe under the counter. She said that as she placed an envelope containing $300 on the counter, two men wearing face masks and carrying guns entered the shop.

They demanded money and she gave them what was on the counter, the clerk said. But the robbers demanded more from the cash register, she told the police.

She said she opened the register and gave them about $150 more and they left.

The clerk said one of the men pointed the gun at her and told her to give him “the damn money.” She said the second one shouted the same thing at her and told her to get the key to open the (expletive) box.

The assistant manager told police he was in a back room and when he heard the commotion, he pushed the panic alarm.

The Lawrence County commissioners have decided to solicit proposals for the private operation of the county jail. Good idea?

Yes. If it’s a more efficient way to run the jail, I’m all for it.
No. I think there would be too many questions of liability for the county.
Not sure. The county seems to be doing a good job of running the jail now. Why break it if it’s not broken?
