Four charged with alleged break-in

NEW CASTLE — Four people have been arrested for allegedly breaking into a house on Cleveland Avenue.

Police were called to the 700 block around 2:45 p.m. Sunday and found a 72-year-old woman holding a hammer confronting a group of people outside.

She told them she received a call at her Sheep Hill home that two men and two women broke into a house that she owns. She said she has owned the house on Cleveland Avenue for 10 to 15 years.

The four individuals were taken to the police station for questioning and one of them, Maynard Daugherty, 47, of 909 E. Washington, has a suspended license and expired car registration, police said.

He told police that he had picked up the three friends and they drove to Waldo Street to get keys to a house that he thought he was moving into. The four then went to the Cleveland Avenue house, where he tried to open the door with the key but it didn’t work, he said.

According to police, Daugherty said he reached his hand inside a broken front-door window and opened it, then the four went inside and looked around.

While they were there, the owner arrived, screaming and yelling at them and they left, Daugherty told police.

The other three alleged intruders were identified as Quentin Lane, 42, of 335 Cuba St., Jamie Lynn Hernandez, 25, of 16 W. Terrace Ave., and Adrian Calhoun, 26, of Reynoldsville, Pa.

Police searched Calhoun’s purse and allegedly found a crack pipe, three spoons, a syringe, a nail and a medicine container with a spoon and razor inside, and a small amount of suspected crack cocaine.

All four are charged with criminal trespass and criminal conspiracy and were arraigned by District Judge Scott McGrath.

Hernandez’s bond was set at $5,000.

Daugherty and Calhoun also are charged with possession and possession of paraphernalia. In addition, Daugherty is charged with driving without registration and driving while license is suspended. His bond was set at $5,000.

Lane and Calhoun are separately charged with contraband for a non-controlled substance. Their bonds total $10,000.

You’re NEVER too old! Age is just a number — more power to ’em!
Geez! I didn’t realize they were THAT old! That’s, like, my grandpa’s age.
Not sure. But I do enjoy a good “Golden Girls” rerun in syndication. Now THAT’S entertainment!
