Girl hurt as vehicle slides

NEW CASTLE — A 7-year-old girl suffered what police described as major injuries when she was hit by a car Tuesday.

Kristina Ritenour of New Castle was injured in the accident just after 4 p.m. Tuesday on Columbiana Road in North Beaver Township.

State police said the girl was walking along the road when a vehicle, operated by Ryan Higgins, 24, of New Castle, began to slide on the snow-covered road. The rear of the vehicle hit the girl.

She was transported to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. A spokeswoman said she had been discharged Wednesday.
