NEW CASTLE —
Police use sting operation to make arrest
New Castle police arrested a Detroit man in a sting operation after suspected heroin was allegedly found under a mattress.
Police arranged surveillance and an undercover drug exchange between a woman and the suspect, 37-year-old Kenneth Jordan, at a shopping center.
According to police, a man contacted the Lawrence County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force last week about suspected heroin he said he had found in his ex-girlfriend’s apartment at Crestview Gardens. He told police he had found the substance — in 27 stamp bags, valued around $20 each — and a digital scale under a corner of the mattress. He turned it over to the police, they reported.
The woman told her ex-boyfriend she wanted it back because she was fearful of its alleged owner, Jordan, who goes by the nickname of “Cuzzo.” He allegedly asked her to keep it for him after a recent drug raid at Crestview.
The woman told police “Cuzzo” had told her he would return for the drugs, but she hadn’t heard from him in several days. She said she doesn’t know his real name.
The next day, officers instructed the woman to go to the police station, where she called Jordan on his cell phone and told him to “come and get his stuff.”
She arranged to meet him at a grocery store, while police set up surveillance in the parking lot. When Jordan arrived, she went into the store with him and when they came out, Jordan had the bag of suspected heroin in his hand, police said. He was seen trying to hand it back to her, then he threw it at her, they added.
Police then took them both into custody and confiscated the bag.
Jordan is charged with possession with intent to deliver heroin, criminal use of a communication facility, possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was arraigned by District Judge David B. Rishel and lodged in the Lawrence County jail in lieu of $75,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is set for Thursday.
