Hit-and-run victims treated, released

NEW CASTLE — Two people injured in a downtown hit-and-run have been identified.

Teresa Hooks, 36, whose address was given as 20 Smithfield St. and 530 Bell Ave., and Michael A. Smock, 34, of 219 N. Beaver St. were treated at Jameson Hospital and released.

A witness told New Castle police the two had begun to cross North Jefferson Street near the former Jefferson Arms Hotel when they were struck by a gray SUV or van, northbound on Jefferson Street.

The witness said the male driver got out of the vehicle after he struck the two, but then drove away. The incident happened about 7 p.m. Monday.
