Westminster students reports assault

NEW CASTLE — New Wilmington police are seeking information following the assault of a Westminster College student.

Police said the victim, a 20-year-old New Castle man, told officers he was unlocking his car about 11 p.m. Friday in the 100 block of Waugh Avenue when someone pulled on his backpack strap. He said he turned and was struck in the face and head “by an unknown number of suspects” who left him unconscious in the driveway. Upon regaining consciousness, he told police, he called 911 to summon help.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Jameson Hospital where he was treated and released, police said.

Police were assisted by the New Wilmington Volunteer Fire Department Emergency Medical Services.

Officers are continuing the investigation of the assault and ask that anyone with information contact the department at (724) 946-8111.
