Police: Man tried to fight, urinate on officers

NEW CASTLE — An Ellwood City man has been jailed on charges he tried fighting with police and attempted to urinate on them.

David Joseph Carter, 34, of 605 Franklin Ave. was charged by Ellwood City police after officers said they had received a call about noise coming from Carter’s home at around 4:15 a.m. Tuesday.

Officers said they found Carter outside playing a stereo in the rain. They added Carter appeared to be intoxicated and there were beer cans strewn around.

Upon seeing the officers, police said, Carter began to shout obscenities and challenged them to “come and get me.” He then ran inside his home and continued screaming at them, police said.

Officers entered the home, they said, where Carter put up his fists in a threatening manner, indicating he wanted to fight. He was handcuffed and taken to a cruiser. They said Carter continued to threaten them and began to kick the doors and windows of the cruiser from the inside and smashed his head off the cage and windows of the vehicle.

At the station, police said, Carter continued his threats and aggressive behavior to the point they had to use a Taser on him. Carter was placed in a cell, where they said he was still threatening police. They said he also urinated in the cell and attempted to urinate on them.

Carter was charged with resisting arrest, aggravated harassment by a prisoner and public drunkenness. He was arraigned Tuesday by District Judge Jerry Cartwright and placed in the county jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.
