Man facing assault charges

NEW CASTLE — A West Pittsburg man was arrested after he allegedly used a woman’s car without her permission then assaulted her.

New Castle police have charged 20-year-old Joseph Pounds of 13th Street in connection with an incident around 9:50 p.m. Monday outside a convenience store on the city’s West Side.

Police said a disturbance was reported between Pounds and a woman, who said Pounds had stolen her burgundy Chevrolet Impala and later returned it. Police said they saw Pounds driving the Impala on North Jefferson Street. They  stopped him on Margaret Street.

The woman told police Pounds had struck her in the chest with a beer bottle outside the store. She said he then drove off in her car, without her permission, leaving her on the West Side.

Pounds was arraigned by District Judge Jennifer Nicholson, charged with simple assault, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, harassment and driving while his operating privilege is suspended or revoked. His bond was set at $1,000.

Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 fell from the sky in Donetsk, Ukraine, on Thursday, killing all 298 people aboard. Many are speculating that Russian rebels (supported by Vladimir Putin) are responsible for downing the aircraft. What do you think?

What is up with these Malaysian Airlines planes? I know one airline I won't be flying any time soon...
