Police: Reports for Oct. 1

NEW CASTLE — SHENANGO TOWNSHIP

•Accident. Police said Brandon Bailey struck the back of a car operated by Ann Zelena on the eastbound off ramp of Route 422 at Ellwood Road. The accident occurred about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday.

•Accident. Police said Gerald Lee Miller, 58, of Mosser Drive was in a pickup truck, traveling south on East Washington Street at noon Wednesday when he stopped for a vehicle making a left turn onto Cascade Street. At that point, officers said, Miller’s truck was hit from behind by Melissa Jean Gardner, 46, of East Wallace Avenue, who was unable to stop on wet pavement. No injuries were reported, police said.

NESHANNOCK TOWNSHIP

•Theft. Police reported several incidents where vehicles were entered and items removed while the cars were parked at homes in the Neshannock Trails and Parkside Drive area. The incidents occurred early Friday morning. Items taken include a laptop computer and change.

•Accident. Police said Kurtis Williams of Youngstown pulled from Old Pulaski Road and turned left onto Pulaski Road, into the path of a southbound auto driven by Kristian Ranieri of 229 Abby Lane. The vehicles collided, causing severe damage to both, police said. Ranieri and an 8-year-old passenger in her vehicle were injured and transported to Jameson Hospital, according to police. Both vehicles had severe damage, police said. They cited Williams for a stop sign violation in the incident, which happened about 8 p.m. Friday.

STATE

•Accident. Police said Edwin L. Cracraft, 18, of New Castle, was traveling west on Route 422, just east of Route 388, about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Police said Cracraft failed to see stopped traffic and struck the rear of an auto operated by Danielle L. Stoner, 20, of New Castle, which in turn hit the rear of a vehicle driven by Carolyn S. McMurdy, 67, of Prospect. Police said there were no injuries. Officers cited Cracraft for driving too fast for conditions.

•Accident. Police said Eleise L. Emery, 61, of New Castle was traveling west on I-376 near Nashua Road at 6:40 a.m. Saturday when she struck a deer. Emery was not injured, officers said.

•Burglary. Someone entered a home on East Poland Avenue in Bessemer at 3:15 p.m. Thursday. Police did not say if any items were taken.

    A South Side man was arrested on gun and drug charges following a traffic stop on the city’s North Hill. Martel Lamar Webb, 19, of 199 Hamilton St. had been wanted by police on charges in a domestic assault case in May when police caught up with him.

    A New Castle woman was arrested and charged with the assault of a year-old child in Scott Township. Nicole Martin, 26, of New Castle was arraigned before District Judge David Rishel on a charge of simple assault. She was lodged in the Lawrence County jail on $1,000 bond.

    The Lawrence County jail received a bomb threat over the weekend. New Castle police reported a call was received at 7:40 p.m. Saturday from a man who said he “was coming up to blow up the jail.”

    A 6-year-old playing in his yard Saturday night said a man tried to abduct him. Pennsylvania State Police said the child, playing on his swing set on Line Street, Perry Township, about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, was approached by a blond, bearded, tattooed man who tried to talk to him.

    The Y Zone in Neshannock Township was evacuated Friday afternoon out of concern for fire. An electrical box at the facility reportedly exploded, cutting power and creating smoke.

    Narcotics officers arrested two men and seized heroin in a raid of a house on New Castle’s East Side. New Castle Police Chief Bobby Salem said city police and Lawrence County District Attorney’s detectives served a sealed search warrant at Apartment D, 502 Florence Ave., around 9 p.m. Wednesday.

    New Castle police are investigating a reported drug overdose of a woman found in a car on the city’s West Side. The woman, 29-year-old Misty Blu McKim of Youngstown, was reported to have been in cardiac arrest and had two children in car seats in the back of the car.

    Police in Lawrence County arrested 15 people Thursday as part of an ongoing sweep of accused drug dealers. Lawrence County District Attorney Joshua Lamancusa said the detail, dubbed “Operation Spring Cleaning,” began around 10 a.m.
