Second burglary suspect charged

NEW CASTLE — A man charged with a city burglary has given up his alleged accomplice, according to police.

New Castle police Monday charged William Ronald Fry, 28, who has two North Hill addresses, in connection with the Sept. 6 morning break-in of a house for sale on Edison Avenue near North Mercer Street. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Fry has addresses at 122 E. Wallace Ave. and 228 E. Laurel Ave., according to police.

Christopher M. Pagley, 28, of 316 Lake Drive, was charged Sept. 17 in connection with the burglary. Pagley implicated Fry during his Sept. 26 preliminary hearing in the presence of his attorney, police said.

A couple of neighbors reported having seen a vehicle in front of the house around 10 a.m. the day of the break-in, and two men were seen getting out of it. The neighbors told police one of the men had been carrying pruning shears or bolt-cutters, and they had walked around the house, then back to their vehicle, a silver Buick Rainier, and loaded items into it. Police determined the vehicle is registered to Pagley.

The real estate agent notified police someone had forced his way in through a window and all the copper pipe had been stolen.

The witnesses later identified Pagley from a photo lineup.

Pagley went to the police station Sept. 17 and denied any involvement with the burglary at first, officers said, then later admitted to the break-in. He told police he had stood outside and Fry had gone in through the window and opened the front door, they noted.

Several pieces of copper were put into his truck, Pagley said, adding he dropped Fry off and later met him to split the $100 received for the metal.

Pagley said Fry told him he knew of a house where they could take scrap metal for some extra money. He said Fry told him the copper already had been cut and was lying around.

Fry is charged with burglary, theft, criminal conspiracy to commit burglary and theft, and receiving stolen property.
