Man jailed for assault facing drug charges

NEW CASTLE — A man jailed Wednesday in connection with an alleged burglary and assault is now facing drug charges, too.

New Castle police said that when they arrested Glenn David Samuels III, 22, of 304 E. Lutton St., at his home just before noon Wednesday, they found him to be in possession of about 8 grams of heroin and 3 grams of crack cocaine, all broken down into individual packages for sale.

The officers had been called to Samuels’ house regarding a report he was trying to remove a child.

Police had a warrant for his arrest that had been issued for an alleged break-in and assault incident involving a gun the previous night on Altman Road.

Officers went to Samuels house around noon Wednesday and found him on his porch with a car seat in his hand and a diaper bag slung over his shoulder. The officers ordered him to put down the items and when he tried to walk back into the house, a family member blocked him, police said.

During a search, officers allegedly found a folded stack of cash totaling $1,000 in Samuels’ pants pocket, and a plastic bag with stamp bags of suspected heroin and another plastic bag with individually wrapped bags of suspected crack cocaine in his sock.

Police said there were 28 stamp bags of suspected heroin and the packages were marked with a logo and the words, “Mood Swing.” They weighed a total of 8 grams including packaging, police said.

The suspected crack cocaine was in 15 individually wrapped bags weighing a total of 3 grams, including packaging.

Samuels was charged with two counts each of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was arraigned by District Judge Jerry G. Cartwright, who set his bond at $50,000.

Earlier that day Samuels was charged with burglary, assault and gun-related charges and arraigned by District Judge Jennifer L. Nicholson, who set his bond at $25,000.
