Teen to get mental health evaluation

NEW CASTLE — A 17-year-old who threatened suicide has been taken into custody by Neshannock Township police.

Officers were called at 2 p.m. June 12. The teen’s mother told officers her son had a handgun and was “really acting up.” She told officers that a few days earlier, he also had had a shotgun.

The teen was taken to Jameson Hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Officers found the shotgun, loaded with a shell in the chamber, wrapped in a plastic bag under the stairs to the front door. Officers said the gun’s stock had been cut off and the barrel was cut down to 13 inches. Officers later learned that the handgun “must have been stolen.”

Police filed a juvenile petition against the teen for possession of a firearm by a minor, receiving stolen property, disorderly conduct and possession of a prohibited offensive weapon.

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal signed “unprecedented” legislation yesterday to expand gun rights in his state. Good idea?

Yes. Expanding the scope of where people can carry guns can help halt violent crimes and make those places safer.
No. Carrying guns into bars and schools is NEVER a good idea. I think it will lead to more violence.
Not sure, but I don’t plan to visit Georgia any time soon.
