NEW CASTLE —
A man police said broke into a sportsmen’s club Monday morning told them he had done it to keep warm.
State police said Scott Lawrence Easterday, 39, whose last known address was 309 E. Falls St., had an assortment of knives on him when he was found inside the Lawrence County Sportsmen’s Association building at 3380 N. Mill St.
Police said Easterday also allegedly had pocketed $17 that was missing from a food donation can in the North Beaver Township building.
A club member contacted police after unlocking the banquet hall/lodge building and seeing a man, later identified as Easterday, standing inside. Easterday told the man he had broken into the building and was going to leave soon, state police reported.
When troopers arrived, they saw Easterday inside and noticed damage to the door frame and a broken lock on the door.
When troopers searched Easterday, they found two spring-loaded knives in his pockets and two seven-inch silver daggers in a sheath at the small of his back.
Police said Easterday’s cell phone was plugged into a wall outlet in the building.
He is charged with burglary, theft, criminal mischief and four counts of carrying a prohibited offensive weapon.
He was arraigned by District Judge Jennifer Nicholson and lodged in the Lawrence County jail in lieu of $25,000 bond.
