Crestview search yields quantity of cocaine

NEW CASTLE — An apartment search at 1100 Pin Oak Drive a week ago by police yielded a stash of drugs but no people.

New Castle police and the Lawrence County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force obtained a search warrant for an apartment in that building at Crestview Gardens.

There were no apparent occupants of the apartment, but police found eight grams of powdered cocaine valued at $800, two grams of crack cocaine valued at $200, packaging material and an assortment of drug paraphernalia, including syringes, according to District Attorney Joshua Lamancusa.

Other than the drugs, the apartment was empty except for a ma ttress and a desk, he said.

“It looked like it was being used to sell out of it,” he added.

The search was a return visit from the day before, when police had searched a different apartment in the complex and arrested two women after finding drugs and cash.

It was incorrectly reported to the New Castle News by the police in Saturday’s edition that the second search  “came up empty.”
