Two injured in Mill Street, Taylor accidents

NEW CASTLE — Two people were injured in a pair of accidents Thursday, New Castle police reported.

One involved a car that went over an embankment off West Pittsburg Road in Taylor Township around noon.

Police said Nancy Thomas, 62, of Seventh Street, West Pittsburg, apparently was suffering from a medical condition and passed out behind the wheel of her car.

She drove onto the right berm going north, spun and went back onto the road and continued backward over a 20-foot embankment, stopping on a clump of trees at bottom of the hill, according to New Castle traffic officer Chris Fabian.

Thomas was extricated from her car by Taylor Township volunteer firefighters and medical personnel from Noga ambulance. They carried her up the hill to the ambulance, Fabian said, adding she suffered a small cut on the back of her head and possibly other injuries.

She was taken to Jameson Hospital for treatment.

Earlier yesterday, Joseph Mangino, a New Castle school district crossing guard, suffered scratches and bruises when he was grazed by a motorcycle on South Mill Street, just after 8 a.m.

Fabian said the motorcyclist was Robert Lynn, 58, of Pennsylvania Avenue, who brushed Mangino with his mirror at the intersection of Home Street as the traffic light was changing, knocking Mangino down.

Mangino was ushering children at a George Washington Intermediate Elementary School bus stop.

He was taken to Jameson Hospital for treatment and later released.

Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 fell from the sky in Donetsk, Ukraine, on Thursday, killing all 298 people aboard. Many are speculating that Russian rebels (supported by Vladimir Putin) are responsible for downing the aircraft. What do you think?

Yes. All evidence points that way.
No. Everyone is so quick to point fingers, but there's not enough evidence to support claims of Russian guilt.
I'm not sure. I'll just wait until the investigation is over to make up my mind.
What is up with these Malaysian Airlines planes? I know one airline I won't be flying any time soon...
