Police: shooting circumstances still unclear

NEW CASTLE — New Castle police say they have not determined how a shooting occurred last week that left three people injured.

One gunshot victim, Michael Foster, 45, of 6 E. Euclid Ave., suffered a severe spinal cord injury and remains in critical condition at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown, according to police chief Bobby Salem.

Salem said that contrary to earlier reports, Foster was shot only once in the back of the neck.

He said police have not yet been able to interview Foster for a statement because of his condition.

Also injured were 38-year-old Shawntelle Johnson and her husband, Montral Johnson, 36, both of 315 E. Hillcrest Ave. where the shooting occurred around 3 a.m. Friday.

They also were taken to St. Elizabeth. Shawntelle Johnson, suffered a bullet wound to the head above her ear. Also contrary to earlier reports, she remains hospitalized following surgery to remove bullet fragments, Salem said.

Montral Johnson was shot once in the ankle and twice in the arm and was discharged from the hospital Saturday.

Meanwhile, the investigators are following up leads with the guns and other evidence, he said, adding the police still do not know who shot whom.

According to an earlier police report, officers found two revolvers in the house and Foster was unconscious on the steps with one of them at his feet and one underneath him where he was lying.

Lawrence County tax records show that the house where the gunfire broke out had gone to a tax sale last September for nonpayment of property taxes, but it did not sell at that time.

It then went up for sale again in May at the county’s free and clear sale in May and did not sell then either. After that, the county takes ownership and it goes into a repository with other unsold tax-delinquent properties.

The house previously had been owned by Donald B. Wheeler of New Bedford.

It’s been a unique week on the marriage front. Actress Jodie Foster married her longtime girlfriend, while a lesbian trio that wed last year, who bill themselves as a “throuple,” have announced they are expecting. What’s your take on alternative unions?

I’m against it. I believe in one man, one woman.
I’m OK with it. As long as they’re adults, they can marry whoever they want.
A lesbian “throuple?” Really? SMH.
