SHARON — A 32-year-old Sharon woman was raped Saturday afternoon by a 17-year-old Sharon boy while his 14-year-old brother watched, Sharon Police Chief Mike Menster said.

The teens were petitioned to juvenile court on charges of rape, conspiracy to commit rape, indecent sexual assault and criminal trespass and are being held in a juvenile detention facility, Menster said.

The alleged victim didn’t know the boys. She suffers from diminished mental capacity and let the boys into her Hall Street home and they struck up a conversation with her, Menster said.

They asked for cigarettes and she went to a basement bedroom to get them. The boys followed her downstairs and they attacked her and the 17-year-old raped her, Menster said.

During the assault, the victim’s 8-year-old son went to the basement, saw the assault, and alerted his grandmother — the victim’s mother — who chased the boys off and called 911.

Police arrived shortly thereafter — they were dispatched at 1:06 p.m. and at 1:10 p.m. the brothers were located at North Oakland Avenue and Silver Street, Menster said.

“The victim positively identified them as being the actors and they were arrested,” Menster said.

The woman was examined at the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System and didn’t appear to have any physical injuries, Menster said.

A juvenile hearing for the boys hasn’t been set because Monday was Columbus Day, Menster said.
