NEW CASTLE — New Castle police used a Taser multiple times on a man who refused to leave a newspaper truck.

That was after Michael Lee Braeutigan, 28, of 351 Halco Drive kicked an officer in the stomach as he tried to get him out of the vehicle.

The incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. Tuesday at West Penn Printing Co. off Sampson Street, where employees found Braeutigan sitting in a company truck talking loudly about the Iraq war.

Police said they ordered him to get out and he flipped his middle fingers at them. An officer then opened the driver’s door and as he removed his Taser from his belt, Braeutigan tried to kick him in the head but missed, according to reports. Braeutigan then kicked the officer in the stomach and the officer shot him twice with the Taser, above his lip and on his forehead.

The police removed Braeutigan from the truck and he continued fighting them, was hit once more with the Taser and arrested.

He was taken to Jameson Hospital to have the prongs removed, police said.

Braeutigan faces two counts each of aggravated and simple assault and harassment and one count each of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

He was arraigned by District Judge Jennifer L. Nicholson and placed in the Lawrence County jail in lieu of $50,000 bond.
