Home invasion reported in Hillsville

NEW CASTLE — A couple was sprayed with mace when two men broke into their Hillsville home at knife-point Saturday night.

State police reported the intruders, both clothed from head to foot in camouflage gear, broke in the front door of a mobile home on Jenny Lane at Valley Site mobile home park around 10:10 p.m.

They threatened to kill the two residents, sprayed them in the face with mace and demanded to know where their pills were kept.

One man held the woman with a knife to her neck, but she fought him and punched him in the face, and he dropped the knife, troopers said.

The two intruders then ran out without taking anything, fleeing into nearby woods.

State police set up a perimeter and engaged the New Castle police canine unit to help them search the area, but did not find the men.

The two residents were treated at the scene for the mace. No other injuries were reported.

The police advise that residents leave on their porch lights and be alert. Any suspicious activity should be reported immediately to the state police at (724) 598-2211.
