Man facing 22 sex charges, including raping child

NEW CASTLE — A West Middlesex man is facing 22 sex-related charges, including one involving rape of a child.

Alvin Duane Kern, 47, of 825 New Bedford-Sharon Road, is being held in the Lawrence County jail, unable to post bond.

According to criminal complaints filed in the office of District Judge Scott McGrath, state police said the charges against Kern involve three females.

Although one of the cases involved an alleged incident in May with a 15-year-old, two others deal with complaints as far back as 2000.

One woman, who is now 20, said she had been sexually assaulted by Kern when she 8 to 10 years old. She described a series of incidents that led to 18 of the charges against Kern. These are rape of a person under 13, statutory sexual assault, indecent sexual assault of a person under 13, five counts of aggravated indecent sexual assault of a person under 13, contact committed with a minor, five counts of indecent assault of a person under 13, two counts of corruption of minors as well as another sex-related count.

Another alleged victim told authorities she had been sexually assault by Kern in either 2005 or 2006, when she was either 8 or 9. Charges in this alleged incident involve attempted rape of a child, attempted statutory sexual assault and indecent assault with a person under 13.

The May incident reported to police involved a 15-year-old who reported being inappropriately touched by Kern at his home. Police charged Kern with indecent assault of a person under 16 in that case.

A preliminary hearing for Kern is scheduled for Thursday.

Are you concerned enough about the Heartbleed bug on the Internet to change all of your social media and website passwords?

Yes. It’s always a good idea to change passwords regularly anyway. I just have so many, I’m not sure where to start.
No. From what I’ve read, companies are still trying to figure out how to fix the flaw. The bad guys will just have access to my NEW passwords, too.
Not sure, but I blame Al Gore. He invented the Internet, right? How’s he going to get us out of this mess?
