Man accused of burglarizing shed

NEW CASTLE — A Shenango Township man was arrested for allegedly burglarizing a shed on Monroe Street Saturday morning.

Daniel Joseph Norris, 19, of 1022 Center Church Road, faces multiple charges.

Police said a neighbor reported seeing three males carrying gasoline cans on Cunningham Avenue after they had broken into a shed in the 700 block of Monroe Street.

Police caught up with two of the males, both 19.

The shed owner told police his gasoline cans had been stolen from it.

Officers noticed a vehicle parked behind a house on Taylor Street with its door open and found a pair of bolt cutters on the floor in the back.

The car smelled strongly of gasoline, police said, and officers believed it belonged to one of the suspects. A pink glove was found on the ground and one of the suspects had the matching one.

Police had the vehicle towed and found Norris’ wallet in the driver’s side door, along with a container of suspected marijuana and a scale.

They received permission from the owner to search the car thoroughly and seized the items. A set of Yamaha motorcycle exhaust pipes was in the back seat.

The two men who were caught told police that Norris had broken into the shed.

Police have charged Norris with burglary, criminal conspiracy to commit burglary, possession of instruments of crime, theft, criminal conspiracy to commit theft, receiving stolen property, possession of a small amount of marijuana and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was arraigned Saturday morning by District Judge Melissa Amodie, who set bond at $10,000.

Police have not yet charged his alleged accomplices.

The Lawrence County commissioners have decided to solicit proposals for the private operation of the county jail. Good idea?

Yes. If it’s a more efficient way to run the jail, I’m all for it.
No. I think there would be too many questions of liability for the county.
Not sure. The county seems to be doing a good job of running the jail now. Why break it if it’s not broken?
