Police probe Penn Power theft

NEW CASTLE — New Castle police are investigating the theft of cable and other wire items from a Penn Power substation in Mahoningtown.

A Penn Power employee reported the theft to police around 8:20 a.m. Monday, saying it apparently occurred after 5 p.m. July 3.

Police said someone entered the property at 802 N. Cedar Street by cutting two sections of fencing.

About 40 feet of one-inch copper wire was stolen, along with 175 feet of copper wire from a spool.

Two 20-foot 4/0 machine cable equipment grounds also were cut and stolen, police said, and another was damaged and cut at one end.
