Teen shot at Crestview Gardens

NEW CASTLE — A Crestview Gardens teen suffered a gunshot wound to his hind end during gunfire near his home.

New Castle police said Stephen Marquise Brown, 17, of Apartment 2C, 1108 Pin Oak Drive, was shot in the right buttocks and flown to an out-of-town hospital.

Police reported the shooting occurred just before 10 p.m. Thursday in the area of 1103 Pin Oak Drive. Chief Bobby Salem said Friday police have not yet determined a positive suspect and are reviewing security video and following other leads.

When officers arrived, a man told police the youth was lying inside the doorway of an upstairs apartment at 1105 Pin Oak Drive.

They found Brown in a puddle of his blood that stretched from the stairwell into the apartment, according to police.

Brown was conscious and told officers he had not see anything, but had heard shots, felt the bullet hit him, then ran upstairs to the apartment.

New Castle Fire Department personnel attempted to stop the bleeding and Brown was taken to the hospital by ambulance, and then by helicopter to a trauma center. No other medical information was available Friday.

Police doing a protective sweep of the upstairs apartment found a bag containing 20 smaller bags of suspected heroin in the living room. The substance weighed a total of 8 grams, officers estimated.

Police also found a gun at the base of the steps and several shell casings between two apartments, they said.

Three cars parked in the lot were damaged by gunfire, according to police.

The rear window of one was shot out, and another had a bullet holes in the windshield and dashboard. The front passenger and driver’s side windows were shot out of the third car.

A section of Pin Oak Drive was closed temporarily while police looked for evidence.
