NEW CASTLE —
A New Wilmington man faces 24 counts of burglary and related charges after being arrested by borough police.
Aric D. Aiken, 18, of Apartment 2, 149 Waugh Ave., was charged with the removal of items from a New Wilmington fraternity house, as were three juveniles police allege also were involved.
The crime occurred April 15, according to information in a criminal complaint filed in the office of District Judge Scott McGrath. However, there was no indication as to why charges were filed only now.
The complaint indicated New Wilmington officers had received word of four suspects going into the fraternity house on several occasions to remove items. Police responded and saw three suspects running from the fraternity to Aiken’s home.
An officer said he followed the suspects into the residence and observed beer and other alcohol, along with video games. He asked where the items had come from, and also questioned them about an iPod and cash. One suspect had pulled those out of his pockets.
The complaint said the suspects were visibly intoxicated.
The suspects allegedly admitted to police they had entered the fraternity house on five separate occasions, taking various items. Police said the total value of the material taken was $1,170.
Aiken was charged with one count of burglary, four counts of conspiracy to commit burglary, one count of theft, four counts of conspiracy to commit theft, one count of receiving stolen property, four counts of conspiracy to receive stolen property, one count of criminal trespass, four counts of conspiracy to commit criminal trespass, three counts of corruption of minors and one count of purchasing alcohol by a minor.
He was arraigned Friday by McGrath and placed in the Lawrence County jail in lieu of $2,500 bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for tomorrow.

A New Castle woman was arrested and charged with the assault of a year-old child in Scott Township. Nicole Martin, 26, of New Castle was arraigned before District Judge David Rishel on a charge of simple assault. She was lodged in the Lawrence County jail on $1,000 bond.

The Lawrence County jail received a bomb threat over the weekend. New Castle police reported a call was received at 7:40 p.m. Saturday from a man who said he “was coming up to blow up the jail.”

Child says man tried to kidnap him
A 6-year-old playing in his yard Saturday night said a man tried to abduct him. Pennsylvania State Police said the child, playing on his swing set on Line Street, Perry Township, about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, was approached by a blond, bearded, tattooed man who tried to talk to him.

Police probe alleged overdose
New Castle police are investigating a reported drug overdose of a woman found in a car on the city’s West Side. The woman, 29-year-old Misty Blu McKim of Youngstown, was reported to have been in cardiac arrest and had two children in car seats in the back of the car.
