Fire destroys apartment

NEW CASTLE — A fire destroyed one apartment and damaged five others at The Meadows in Neshannock Township.

The Neshannock Township police department said the resident of the apartment was taken to Jameson Hospital for evaluation. No other injuries were reported.

David Congini of the Neshannock Township Volunteer Fire Department said six apartments were affected by the blaze that broke out around 11:35 p.m. Wednesday. Police evacuated the five other units.

Congini said one of the five apartments had fire damage and the others had smoke damage.

According to Neshannock Township police, the destroyed apartment was fully involved, with flames going through the roof, when firefighters arrived.

Congini said Thursday the cause of the fire had yet to be determined. Firefighters were at the scene until about 4 a.m. Thursday.
