A woman reported to police of being robbed on the East Side Sunday.

The woman said she was walking on Whippo Street around 1 a.m. and noticed that a man was following her. She said she thought she recognized him and went over to his car.

According to police, she said he grabbed her right arm, pulled it out of her pocket and stole $35. Then, she grabbed onto the driver’s side door, and he drove away, dragging her for about a half-mile before she let go.

She later went to a hospital emergency room, having suffered road rash and a bruise on her head, police said.

New Castle police arrested a man Sunday morning for possessing 27 bags of suspected marijuana.

A passenger in a car stopped by New Castle police Sunday morning had bags of suspected marijuana with him, New Castle police said.

Ashton Jahfar Johnson, 26, of 810 McGrath Ave., was arrested and charged with possession, possession with intent to deliver and possession of paraphernalia. Johnson was a passenger in a car stopped by police.

An officer on patrol around 12:15 a.m. said a tan Chevrolet pulled in front of him from a parking lot on East Washington Street and he had to break suddenly to avoid hitting it.

Marijuana found in home searches

New Castle police say they found marijuana and drug paraphernalia at two separate houses while searching for a robbery suspect.

Police went to a house in the 400 block of East Division Street around 4 p.m. Friday. The resident, Robert Wayne Hoon, 30, who lives at the house, gave them consent to look inside, police said.

During the search, officers found three suspected marijuana cigarettes, three pipes and a cutting instrument.

According to police, Hoon said the items were his and that he smokes marijuana. He gave them a bag of suspected marijuana and a tube containing three suspected marijuana cigarettes.

The officers also went to a home where Mark Steven Krieger Jr., 38, of 802 Pollock Ave. allowed them to search. There, they found Krieger to have marijuana and paraphernalia, police said.

A letter writer to The News has suggested there’s plenty to be negative about when it comes to the city of New Castle. In general, are you negative or hopeful about our city?

I’m negative. Nepotism, corruption, and incompetence have ruled for years. Nothing has changed.
I’m hopeful. I view the county as a whole, so there’s a lot to be positive about.
Mixed. I think we’re like any other area. You have to take the bad with the good.
