Police find drugs, gun in traffic stop

NEW CASTLE — New Castle police said they turned up drugs and a gun during a traffic stop on the South Side.

Julian Jackson, 25, of 3 1/2 W. Home St., is wanted in connection with the incident. Police released him after the traffic stop, then obtained a search warrant for his vehicle.

Based on the information from the stop and from the search — where they allegedly found marijuana plant stems, pills, a loaded .22 magnum revolver and ammunition — the police filed charges Wednesday and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

The arresting officer reported he had pulled over Jackson’s Jeep around 5:30 p.m. Monday as it turned onto Galbreath Avenue without using a signal. He said he smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle and learned Jackson’s driver’s license is suspended. The vehicle was impounded and a drug-sniffing dog detected narcotics on the driver’s side door.

District Judge Melissa A. Amodie issued a search warrant for the car and police searched it Tuesday.

Jackson faces one count each of illegal possession of a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while his license is suspended and a turn signal violation. He also is charged with two counts each of possession of a controlled substance and misbranding of a controlled substance.
