NEW CASTLE — A New Brighton man wanted in Beaver County is facing gun and domestic violence charges in Lawrence County.

New Castle police took Chaston Harris, 20, into custody Tuesday at an apartment in Harbor Heights.

Police said he had assaulted a 25-year-old woman in her apartment, hitting her repeatedly in the head and face, choking her and throwing her onto the floor. She told police Harris had threatened to kill her if she called the police. She left the apartment later while he was sleeping and notified the police that he had a gun.

Officers said they found him sleeping in a second-floor bedroom with a loaded .40-caliber handgun on the floor next to the bed. Officers arrested him at gunpoint.

Police learned Harris was wanted on an outstanding warrant from Beaver County for aggravated assault and other charges.

Police said charges are pending against Harris for the gun and domestic incident.
