NEW CASTLE — Police said there were no serious injuries in a two-vehicle crash that tied up traffic Tuesday afternoon.

According to New Castle police, Jacqueline Mazzarini, 86, of 1263 Davis Road, Ellwood City, was northbound on East Washington Street about 12:45 p.m. when she attempted to turn left in front of a line of cars stopped and waiting to turn onto Butler Avenue. Police said Mazzarini, driving a Chevrolet Malibu, was apparently trying to turn into the Eastside Pharmacy parking lot and pulled into the path of a Chrysler Aspen SUV. The SUV was driven by Gary C. Filippone, 34, of 700 W. Clayton St., southbound on East Washington Street.

Police said the impact caused Filippone’s vehicle to strike a road sign and utility pole.

Police said both vehicles were disabled and towed.

Officers said Filippone and his passengers, ages 2 and 5, were taken to Jameson Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries then released. Mazzarini, who was cited by police, also was treated at Jameson for a minor injury then released.
