NEW CASTLE —
•Burglary. Someone broke into the Country Fair Food Mart on Croton Avenue between 10 and 11:30 p.m. Tuesday and stole packs of Newport cigarettes. A witness reported he saw a man breaking into the store. He said the man then ran up the Ray Street hill. Police found a broken window and a brick on the floor inside the store, along with a steel claw hammer. Multiple packs of cigarettes were on the floor and in the parking lot. No suspect was found.
•Burglary A break-in was reported at Macri Sports, 835 Moravia St., between 5 and 10:30 p.m. Sunday. Police were called when an alarm sounded in the building and officers found a front door open. Nothing was reported missing.
•Burglary. Numerous copper wires were reported stolen from a house in the 900 block of Winslow Avenue between midnight Friday and 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
•Burglary. Numerous pieces of copper pipe were reported stolen from the basement of a house in the 400 block of Martin Street between 2:30 p.m. March 20 and 9:45 a.m. March 21. The house also had a strong smell of natural gas. Police collected samples of blood found at the scene and found footprints through several back yards.

•Wesley Allen Newton Jr., 34, of New Castle, two counts of driving under the influence and one count each of driving while blood alcohol level is .02 or greater with license suspended, reckless driving and disregarding traffic lane.

Former vo-tech employee charged with theft
A former employee of the Lawrence County Career and Technical Center has been charged with stealing money from the school.
Mobile home fire under investigation
A fire that destroyed a mobile home in Little Beaver Township Monday morning is under investigation. Enon Valley Volunteer Fire Chief Ben Hostetler said the state police fire marshal has been called in to determine the cause of the blaze on Valley View Drive.
Hikers found safe
Two hikers who had been reported missing Monday night in McConnell’s Mill State Park were found safe and uninjured. The hikers, Cole L. Ransom, 23, of New Castle and Katherine G. Tester, 25, of New Galilee were found at 11:31 p.m. Monday.
Flight from police yields suspected cocaine
A Youngstown man who police said fled from them Monday morning remains in the Lawrence County jail. New Castle police said Jamal I. Turner, 21, of 56 Garfield St., was arraigned before District Judge Melissa Amodie on charges of manufacture, delivery or possession of a controlled substance, flight to avoid apprehension, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and disorderly conduct.
Man charged with drug possession during school visit
A Meadville man visiting a local school is facing drug possession charges. New Castle police said a summons has been issued to Jeremy Smith, 35, of Liberty Street. He is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.
Jeep flips onto roof in Falls Street accident
A Pulaski woman was injured when her car collided with a van and flipped onto its roof, trapping her inside. The accident occurred around 11:15 a.m. Thursday on Falls Street at the intersection of Lowry Street.
Felon arrested for drugs on Halco Drive
Narcotics investigators found cocaine and marijuana while serving a sealed search warrant on Halco Drive Thursday. They also confiscated oxycodone pills and a loaded .38-caliber pistol.
Chimney fire damages home
A chimney fire caused damage to a North Beaver Township home this week. The North Beaver Township Volunteer Fire Department was called to the home of Joe Procopio at 325 Reed Road.
Man jailed for assault facing drug charges
A man jailed Wednesday in connection with an alleged burglary and assault is now facing drug charges, too. New Castle police said that when they arrested Glenn David Samuels III, 22, of 304 E. Lutton St., at his home just before noon Wednesday, they found him to be in possession of about 8 grams of heroin and 3 grams of crack cocaine, all broken down into individual packages for sale.
Man charged after hitting Capitol Grille
An East Side man is facing charges after a December accident when his truck allegedly hit the Capitol Grille building. On Wednesday, New Castle police charged George A. Stevens, 58, of Apt. 412, 814 W. Washington St., in connection with the accident that occurred around 1:50 p.m. Dec. 31.
