NEW CASTLE —
Lawrence County drug task force members seized drugs, cash and two assault rifles yesterday from a house on Long Avenue.
Police arrested Bo Allan Williams Jr., 26, of 13 Steinbrink Place, around 6:15 a.m. while he was staying at the 551 E. Long Ave. house.
Crack cocaine and marijuana were the suspected drugs that were recovered.
Williams is charged with two counts of delivery of a controlled substance, three counts of possession of controlled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of prohibited offensive weapons.
He was arraigned before District Judge David Rishel and lodged in the Lawrence County jail on $25,000 bond.
Police said Williams and two juveniles, including a toddler, were inside the house when members of the New Castle police special response team and the District Attorney’s Drug Task Force entered the home.
“This was considered a high-risk entry because we knew the owner-occupant had firearms,” District Attorney Joshua Lamancusa said.
He said officers had obtained a sealed search warrant signed by Lawrence County Judge J. Craig Cox.
A K-9 unit officer and his dog helped to identify the suspected drugs that had been hidden throughout the house.
Lamancusa said the officers found about 24 grams of suspected crack cocaine with an estimated street value of $1,000, 12 grams of suspected marijuana, worth about $100, and several pills, believed to be roxycodone. He said the drugs were hidden among house plants and children’s toys.
The police also found about $2,500 in cash and confiscated scales that contained suspected drug residue, Lamancusa said. He said the assault rifles seized included one that had been altered when someone shortened the barrel.
New Castle police chief Bobby Salem said that in addition to removing about $1,100 worth of drugs from the streets, “the real achievement is in removing the illegal fire arms from the streets. These affect officers’ safety.”
