NEW CASTLE —
Two Lawrence County men have been charged with burglarizing an Ellwood City apartment.
Christopher Jay Magusiak, 20, of 509 Ninth St., Ellwood City, and Timothy Andrew Zurrica, 18, of 7634 Big Beaver Blvd., Wampum, have been charged by Ellwood City police with burglary, conspiracy, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.
They were arraigned by District Judge Scott A. McGrath and are lodged in the Lawrence County jail after failing to post $10,000 bond each.
According to police, the occupant of a Second Street apartment said items were stolen overnight Thursday to Friday. Included were two televisions, three game systems, a plastic jar containing loose change and a bottle of vodka.
Police said the victim suspected who may have been involved in the burglary. Upon investigation, police had the victim look into Zurrica’s vehicle. He could see the plastic jar behind the driver’s seat.
After talking with Zurrica, police searched Magusiak’s vehicle and found the other items, including the TVs, in the vehicle, according to court papers.

Man charged as store burglary accomplice
New Castle police have arrested a South Side man for his alleged role in a convenience store burglary. Alex John Benkosky, 21, of 821 S. Mercer St., is accused as an accomplice in the March 26 break-in at the Country Fair on Croton Avenue.

A New Castle man is accused of allegedly assaulting a Crestview Gardens woman. Police said Dajoi Taylor, 19, of 509 W. North St. allegedly hit an 18-year-old woman in the cheek with a purple eyebrow razor and pulled the weave out of her hair during an encounter around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Vacant house burns on South Side
A vacant South Side house burned Monday morning. New Castle firefighters were called at 12:50 a.m. to 510 Galbreath St. They said the structure “was fully involved” when they arrived and flames could be seen on all four sides of the building.

A Detroit man reported to New Castle police he had been pistol whipped by two men in Crestview Gardens. The man told police the incident occurred around 3 p.m. Wednesday on Parkwood Court.

Cleaners cause fire in vacant Halco unit
Lawrence County Housing Authority employees cleaning a vacant unit sparked a blaze Monday, according to city firefighters. The fire just before noon in the Halco Drive apartment caused $10,000 damage to the kitchen, they said.

A vacant house on the city’s West Side burned over the weekend. The New Castle police department fire investigator has been called to determine what caused a blaze at 418 Conn St., near Bell Avenue.

A disbarred attorney, already jailed on theft-related charges, is facing a new criminal case. Michael Frisk, formerly of Ellwood City and now serving time in the Lawrence County jail, is charged with forgery and other counts for allegedly taking money from an Allegheny County client.

UPDATE: Man injured in fall at McConnell’s Mill
An Ohio man was injured in a fall at McConnell’s Mill State Park Monday afternoon. Cody Captain, 26, of Struthers, was visiting the park with a cousin, Sean Robertson, and taking photos at Kildoo Falls when he fell about 15 to 20 feet.
