NEW CASTLE —
State police are continuing their investigation into an accident Saturday that injured two people, one critically.
The two-vehicle crash occurred at 4:10 a.m. on Route 19 in Scott Township.
One of the operators, Daniel J. Book, 22, of 1487 Eastbrook Road was listed in critical condition Sunday at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. He was ejected from his vehicle.
According to police, a 2000 Toyota, driven by Jesse A. Swanson, 20, of Slippery Rock was traveling south on Route 19, while Book was headed north.
Police said the two vehicles collided, and the impact caused Book to be ejected from his 1992 Chevrolet truck. The report did not indicate what may have led to the collision.
Both Book and Swanson were taken by helicopter to St. Elizabeth. Swanson was listed in stable condition Sunday.

Drug charges filed after raid
Police have charged four people arrested during a drug raid Wednesday in Union Township. Members of the Lawrence County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force executed a sealed search warrant at 27 Spring St. All four suspects live at that address, according to court records.

North Hill man hospitalized after crash
A New Castle man who hit a tree in Pulaski Township has been admitted to St. Elizabeth Health Center. According to Pulaski Township police, Adam Welsh, 36, of 202 E. Fairmont Ave., was eastbound on Route 422 about 1:30 a.m. Thursday when his pickup truck left the road.

East Side garage ‘total loss’ in fire
The New Castle police department fire investigator was called for a blaze at a garage. The three-bay garage at 626 Superior St. was a total loss, according to New Castle firefighters, who were called about 11:40 p.m. Wednesday. They remained at the scene until nearly 3 a.m.

Shenango man accused of breaking into car
A Shenango man was arrested after he allegedly was caught breaking into a car on New Castle’s East Side. New Castle police charged Jessie Lauderbaugh, 23, of Highview Drive with fleeing from police, theft from a motor vehicle, disorderly conduct and loitering and prowling at night.

Police arrest four in Union Township drug raid
Four people were arrested and drugs and a gun were confiscated Wednesday when police raided a house in Union Township. Union Township police, with the Lawrence County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force and New Castle police special response team and narcotics unit, served a sealed search warrant at 27 Spring St. just before 6:30 a.m.

Man charged as store burglary accomplice
New Castle police have arrested a South Side man for his alleged role in a convenience store burglary. Alex John Benkosky, 21, of 821 S. Mercer St., is accused as an accomplice in the March 26 break-in at the Country Fair on Croton Avenue.

Man accused of cutting woman
A New Castle man is accused of allegedly assaulting a Crestview Gardens woman. Police said Dajoi Taylor, 19, of 509 W. North St. allegedly hit an 18-year-old woman in the cheek with a purple eyebrow razor and pulled the weave out of her hair during an encounter around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Vacant house burns on South Side
A vacant South Side house burned Monday morning. New Castle firefighters were called at 12:50 a.m. to 510 Galbreath St. They said the structure “was fully involved” when they arrived and flames could be seen on all four sides of the building.

Man reports being pistol whipped
A Detroit man reported to New Castle police he had been pistol whipped by two men in Crestview Gardens. The man told police the incident occurred around 3 p.m. Wednesday on Parkwood Court.
