•Theft. An eight-foot, one-half inch around section of copper cable, from inside a metal fence surrounding a communications tower on Game Farm Road, Scott Township, between May 1 and Sept. 3. Police said the metal fence surrounding the tower was cut.
•Theft. Police said someone opened an online account to deposit Social Security checks of an elderly Ellwood City resident sometime before Thursday. Police said the account was closed before any transactions occurred.
•Burglary. Someone entered a house along Route 488 in Perry Township on Sunday. Police said nothing appeared to have been taken.
•Hit and run. Police said the passenger side of a 1995 Ford Crown Victoria, parked in the 1700 block of Carlisle Street between 2:45 and 5:20 p.m. Thursday was damaged after being hit by an unknown passing vehicle.
•Gunshots fired. Police located five spent 9 mm Luger shell casings in the middle of Pearson Street on Friday morning. Officers were contacted at 5:41 a.m. by a resident reporting that he heard shots fired.
•Cited. Mary Niglio, 52, of Altman Road, cited with endangering welfare of children for allowing children to ride a battery-powered toy car — unsupervised — on a city street on Aug. 18.
•Hit and run. Police said Jennie V. Zarella, 87, of 1424 Johnson St., was traveling the wrong way on Falls Street, apparently ran a red light and hit the car of Lacy Jo Brogan, 23, of Fourth Street, southbound on Jefferson Street about 10 p.m. Aug. 31. Police said Zarella did not stop.
•Attempted burglary. Police said someone apparently tried to enter a house in the 1800 block of Pennsylvania Avenue before 5 a.m. yesterday. Police said an air conditioning unit from the dining room window was found on the ground outside the house and screens had been moved in an apparent effort to enter.

An East Side couple are facing charges for allegedly struggling with police during their arrests on warrants.

Firefighters respond to gas leak
New Castle firefighters responded to a gas leak Friday at the former Lincoln-Garfield school on Long Avenue. Assistant Fire Chief Mike Petrone said Columbia Gas received a call from someone in the 800 block of South Mercer Street about the smell of gas Friday morning.

Woman accused of taking money
A West Middlesex woman is facing multiple theft charges for allegedly using someone else’s ATM card. The amount of money involved is nearly $1,100.
Couple accused of theft from baseball field firm
A Scott Township business involved in producing professional baseball field surfaces was the victim of an alleged employee theft. A husband and wife from Boardman, Ohio, are facing theft and related charges.
Car strikes Neshannock school bus
A New Castle woman will be cited for failing to stop in time to avoid striking a stopped school bus. Neshannock police said Mary Clause struck the Neshannock bus, which had stopped in the 1800 block of Pulaski Road about 4 p.m. Wednesday.
North Hill man faces stalking charges
A North Hill man is facing charges for allegedly stalking a neighbor who complained he has been watching her. New Castle police have charged Donald Dean Crews, 53, of 228 E. Fairmont Ave. with two counts each of stalking and harassment.
Man, 61, accused of raping girl
A Wayne Township man is lodged in the Lawrence County jail, accused of raping a 14-year-old girl. Steven Louis Haynes, 61, of 4626 Ellwood Road was charged by state police in an alleged incident that occurred in February or April of last year at his home.
