NEW CASTLE —
A Halco Drive woman is facing arson and other charges.
New Castle police Wednesday charged Latima Lashawn Daniels, 33, of 319 Halco Drive with arson, aggravated assault, arson endangering property, risking catastrophe, recklessly endangering another person and criminal mischief.
New Castle police said city firefighters had been called to Skyview Towers about 12:30 a.m. Dec. 11 and found a red T-shirt that had been spread under the wooden front door of a 10th-floor apartment and ignited.
Police said a fire alarm sounded and another tenant entered the hallway and put out the blaze.
Firefighters said the blaze was contained to the 10th-floor hallway.
Officers said they learned that Daniels had attempted to force her way into a 10th-floor apartment the day before and had threatened and harassed the resident.
Police said surveillance footage of Dec. 11 showed Daniels carrying a red shirt that matches the shirt seized, an aerosol can and a plastic cup with liquid. Police said she got on the elevator on the third floor, rode it to the 11th floor, knocked on a door, then went down the stairwell to the 10th floor. Soon after that, police said, the automatic fire alarm sounded.
Officers said if the fire had spread, the resident of the apartment would have been trapped because there is only one exit.
