    The streets of Lawrence County may look a little neater this morning. That's a result of Operation Street Sweeper, an intensive program conducted yesterday that rounded up individuals who had outstanding warrants against them.

  • Police break up incident on Halco

    Charges are pending against a Halco Drive man and two juveniles who had expected to fight on Thursday afternoon. New Castle police said a crowd had gathered in the 300 block of Halco Drive around 2:30 p.m. One man was said to have had a gun.

    Black smoke billowed from the shell of the former Shenango China plant Friday afternoon. As temperatures flirted with 90 degrees, firefighters from seven companies operated as relay teams to knock back the fire, which firemen believe was deliberately set on the second floor at the back of the property.

  • Man charged with vandalism felony

    A man who allegedly vandalized the electric meters of a downtown business is facing a felony charge.
    James R. Napolitano, 51, of 219 Beaver St., is accused of pulling the meters out of the building owned by Eckles Architects at 222 N. Beaver St. on May 5.

  • Woman faces drug charges

    New Castle police yesterday charged a woman whom they found with drugs in her apartment earlier this month. Members of the Lawrence County Drug Task Force and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration served a warrant at the apartment of 19-year-old Sunshine Lyskowka at 503 S.

  • Woman arrested for break-in

    A Sheep Hill woman has been arrested for allegedly breaking into a house on the city’s North Hill.
    New Castle police said Marissa Donahue, 20, of 14 W. Balph Ave. is accused of stealing jewelry and selling it at a local jewelry and pawn shop.

    New Castle police have arrested a South Side woman after having to use a Taser on her multiple times.
    According to court records, Jennifer L. Smith, 35, of 409 E. Reynolds St., was wanted on two bench warrants out of the Lawrence County sheriff’s office.

    A New Castle man suffered injuries in a Neshannock Township accident yesterday where his car hit a pole and overturned. Neshannock police reported that Christopher Story, 39, no age given, of 411 Park Ave., hit another car from behind while traveling on Maitland Lane around 5:20 p.m.

  • Man, 77, hit by car backing up

    A 77-year-old man was knocked down by a car yesterday afternoon on South Mill Street in the city. New Castle police said Misty Clark, 32, of 925 Warren Ave. was southbound on Mill Street and stopped at a traffic light at Long Avenue that had just changed to red.

  • Car struck by bullets

    New Castle police are investigating an incident where a car was struck by bullets Tuesday night on Halco Drive. A woman told police that she was driving in the area between 7 and 8 p.m. and thought she heard fireworks.
