NEW CASTLE —
A man jumped to his death Tuesday from a bridge in North Beaver Township.
According Lawrence County Coroner Russell Noga, Michael Shearer, 45, died as a result of a fall from the Thomas J. Fee Bridge that carries I-376 over the Mahoning River. His body was found on Covert Road, which runs under the bridge as well.
Noga said Shearer was formerly from Wampum, but his most recent address was in Hubbard, Ohio. He also had been staying with a sister in Mount Jackson.
State police said Shearer jumped from the eastbound side of the side of the Fee bridge around 10:20 a.m. He fell 83 feet to the pavement below.
Noga pronounced him dead at the scene about 10:30 a.m. He ruled the death a suicide and said Shearer suffered fatal injuries from blunt force trauma to his head and chest.
