Casino hearing date now official

NEW CASTLE — May 8 has been confirmed as the public hearing date for Lawrence Downs Casino and Racing Resort.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board will hear from those who wish to comment on the casino license under consideration for the racetrack/casino complex planned for Mahoning Township. Philadelphia-based Endeka Entertainment is the license applicant.

The hearing is set for 10 a.m. at the Mahoning Township Community Center, 4512 W. State St./Route 224, Hillsville.

Anyone wishing to speak at the hearing must register in advance on the gaming board’s website: http://gamingcontrolboard.pa.gov/ and follow the Quick Links “Lawrence Downs Casino Public Input Form for Written Comments” link.

Speakers also may register by regular mail.

Individuals are permitted five minutes, organizations may have 10 minutes and elected and public officials, 15 minutes.

Written comments are also being accepted and may be mailed to: Pa. Gaming Control Board, Attention: Board Secretary, Box 69060, Harrisburg, Pa. 17106. Comments also may be faxed to the gaming control board office at (717) 346-8350.

Any supporting materials or exhibits the speaker plans to present must be provided with the registration forms.

At the hearing, speakers must sign in with a board representative and acknowledge any statement made is true, accurate and made under penalties of perjury. Copies of written remarks are to be provided to the board after speaking.

Permission to speak may be denied if remarks are deemed disrespectful or antagonistic to the board, those attending or the license applicant.

All comments presented will be recorded and become part of the evidentiary record considered by the board.
