NEW CASTLE — Hundreds came “Home for the Holidays” to Ellwood City during the borough’s annual Christmas parade.

More than 30 floats participated in the day’s procession, which started at Lincoln High School and wound its way through Lawrence Avenue.

With Christmas music from band Wine and Spirits, along with more sounds of the season from the Lincoln and Mohawk high school  marching bands, it was a festive atmosphere. Members of the crowd danced along, despite bone-chilling temperatures.

Area students displayed their talents in gymnastics and dancing, with those accompanying the Bette Baney Gymnastics and Cheer float doing cartwheels down the center of the street, while Diamond Dance Academy showed off its best routine.

Diamond Dance Academy’s “Winter Wonderland” float also took first place in the day’s judging contest.

The biggest smiles were seen during the Pittsburgh Shriners Motor Corporation’s presentation, which saw members riding miniature cars while beeping and waving at the crowd.

Ambulances and fire trucks from area companies including Noga, Ellwood City and Perry Township, led the way for the parade’s final float, Santa Claus.
